Mutations within this gene have been associated with Usher syndrome type IIa and retinitis pigmentosa. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. This sequence change replaces proline, which is neutral and non-polar, with leucine, which is neutral and non-polar, at codon 3272 of the USH2A protein (p.Pro3272Leu). -
