In some cancer cell lines, this protein has been found to be fused with estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-alpha), in which the N-terminus of FAS is fused in-frame with the C-terminus of ER-alpha. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with FASN-related conditions. ClinVar contains an entry for this variant (Variation ID: 531010). Variants that disrupt the consensus splice site are a relatively common cause of aberrant splicing (PMID: 17576681, 9536098).
