Tetrahydrobiopterin, also known as BH(4), is an essential cofactor and regulator of various enzyme activities, including enzymes involved in serotonin biosynthesis and NO synthase activity. This sequence change replaces glycine, which is neutral and non-polar, with arginine, which is basic and polar, at codon 50 of the PTS protein (p.Gly50Arg).
