The encoded protein interacts with and negatively regulates the heterodimeric capping protein and promotes cell migration. Reduced expression of this gene has been observed in human psoriasis patients. Mutations in this gene cause a human immunodeficiency syndrome characterized by smooth muscle tumors and impaired T-cell function. [provided by RefSeq, May 2017]

The arginine amino acid residue is found in multiple mammalian species, which suggests that this missense change does not adversely affect protein function. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with CARMIL2-related conditions. This variant is present in population databases (rs754038935, gnomAD 0.007%). This sequence change replaces glycine, which is neutral and non-polar, with arginine, which is basic and polar, at codon 35 of the CARMIL2 protein (p.Gly35Arg). -
