Genes affected
ANKHD1 (HGNC:24714): (ankyrin repeat and KH domain containing 1) This gene encodes a protein with multiple ankyrin repeat domains and a single KH-domain. The protein is thought to function as a scaffolding protein, and it may be involved in the regulation of caspases and thereby play an antiapoptotic role in cell survival. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, one of which generates a fusion transcript (MASK-BP3) with the downstream eIF4E-binding protein 3 (EIF4EBP3) gene, resulting in a protein comprised of the ANKHD1 sequence for the majority of the protein and a different C-terminus due to an alternate reading frame for the EIF4EBP3 segments. Assertions are reported exactly as they appear on the patient provided laboratory report. GenomeConnect does not attempt to reinterpret the variant. The IDDRC-CTSA National Brain Gene Registry (BGR) is a study funded by the U.S. National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and includes 13 Intellectual and Developmental Disability Research Center (IDDRC) institutions. The study is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Philip Payne from Washington University. The BGR is a data commons of gene variants paired with subject clinical information. This database helps scientists learn more about genetic changes and their impact on the brain and behavior. Participation in the Brain Gene Registry requires participation in GenomeConnect.
