Mutations in this gene are a cause of hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IIB (HSAN IIB), and this gene may also play a role in susceptibility to vascular dementia. This sequence change replaces asparagine, which is neutral and polar, with serine, which is neutral and polar, at codon 103 of the RETREG1 protein (p.Asn103Ser). -
