DNAJ family members are characterized by a highly conserved amino acid stretch called the 'J-domain' and function as one of the two major classes of molecular chaperones involved in a wide range of cellular events, such as protein folding and oligomeric protein complex assembly. This family member may also play a role in polyglutamine aggregation in specific neurons. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants; however, not all variants have been fully described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

This missense change has been observed in at least one individual who was not affected with DNAJB6-related conditions (Invitae). This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with DNAJB6-related conditions. This variant is present in population databases (rs774874052, gnomAD 0.0009%). This sequence change replaces isoleucine, which is neutral and non-polar, with valine, which is neutral and non-polar, at codon 19 of the DNAJB6 protein (p.Ile19Val). -
