This protein is associated with double-strand break repair of DNA damage caused by radiation. Pseudogenes of this gene are present on chromosomes 10 and 17. This alteration results from a G to T substitution at nucleotide position 20, causing the serine (S) at amino acid position 7 to be replaced by an isoleucine (I).
