The encoded protein also stabilizes constitutive heterochromatin to maintain the overall chromatin structure. The active, hypophosphorylated form of the protein binds transcription factor E2F1. This sequence change replaces serine, which is neutral and polar, with cysteine, which is neutral and slightly polar, at codon 302 of the RB1 protein (p.Ser302Cys). -
