The encoded protein is a lysophosphatidylinositol acyltransferase that has specificity for arachidonoyl-CoA as an acyl donor. This protein is involved in the reacylation of phospholipids as part of the phospholipid remodeling pathway known as the Land cycle. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. The c.1397C>T (p.P466L) alteration is located in exon 8 (coding exon 7) of the MBOAT7 gene. This alteration results from a C to T substitution at nucleotide position 1397, causing the proline (P) at amino acid position 466 to be replaced by a leucine (L). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
