In the nucleus, the dimerized protein interacts with the A subunit of the ubiquitous transcription factor nuclear factor-Y and may function as a transcriptional repressor. This sequence change replaces alanine, which is neutral and non-polar, with serine, which is neutral and polar, at codon 937 of the ZHX3 protein (p.Ala937Ser).
